Children’s author Larry Hayes is on a mission to get local primary school kids loving writing and loving books.
To celebrate the publication of his new book How to be a Kid Boss he’s taking his hugely popular Creative Writing Workshop on tour to primary schools in West Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Reading and Wiltshire. The book was selected as an editor’s choice in The Bookseller magazine, described as “packed full of surprising and informative facts, this subversive yet erudite book wittily illustrated by Dreidemy, is so much fun children won’t realise quite how much they are learning”.
Any primary school can book Larry for one of 50 free workshops suitable for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
His Creative Writing Workshop is a “Live Action” Choose-Your-Own-Adventure where the children get to make all the decisions. And it never fails to get the whole class engaged and involved in creating (and acting out) a unique new story.
The workshop is for 30 to 60 children at a time and is perfect for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

‘What an amazing morning the children of our local primary school had, creating characters and developing stories, with the fun and dynamic ‘Larry Hayes!’ Aldbourne Children’s Book Group – July 2022
Larry had our Year 4 children utterly enthralled. A wonderful combination of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm he inspired the children, gathered their ideas and expertly modelled the crafting of an amazing story. No mean feat, and that he took the children with them on this journey is all the more impressive. Matthew Lambert, Hungerford teacher
“Larry Hayes really ‘gets’ children. His books, full of wild and silly adventures, appeal to their imaginations and sense of humour. The way he encourages kids to create their own stories is fabulous to see. Engaging, enthusiastic and funny – his school workshops and bookshop signings have been wonderful.” Emma Milne-White, Hungerford Bookshop
