Young people will once again have the chance to get involved with one of the most popular events is Newark’s annual calendar.
Newark Book festival is set to return to the town this summer July 11 to 14 and the Young Ambassadors programme will return alongside side it.
Following on from its successful launch at last yer’s festival, the scheme aimed at seven to 21-years old years will give young people the chance to volunteer at the festival, engage with the community and learn new skills.
Applications to the programme are now open until April 15 — https://www.newarkbookfestival.org.uk/get-involved/young-ambassadors-programme/
Ten lucky ambassadors will also be given the exciting chance to work on their Bronze Arts Award and to curate an event of their own in the lead-up to the festival.

Launched in 2017, Newark Book Festival aims to engage the community with all forms of literacy, from sharing good writing and encourage reading to support writers.
Last year, there were 60 different stallholders and 150 excellent writers and artists featured during the event, other highlights included the festival’s first event poetry and spoken word open mic, crafts in Newark castle and Battle of the Genres at Newark Town Hall.
This year’s festival theme is ‘The Power of Play’, with events focussing on more than just books, and will include sports, arts, heritage, music, word art, street theatre, a town wide murder mystery and an exhibition linked to Newark Creates Book Bench trail, which will launch at the same time, all to inspire those who attend.
Festival artistic director, Sara Bullimore, said: “We are delighted to launch another round of the fabulous Young Ambassador’s, with thanks to a funding contribution from Newark and Sherwood District Council and Arts Council England.
“In 2023 it was wonderful to see so many young people volunteering with us, enjoying meeting authors, writing reviews, and simply having a great time and meeting new friends.
“We loved stumbling across a Young Ambassador sat in a corner reading their books at every opportunity. We look forward to welcoming the 2024 team”.
Young Ambassadors will receive a welcome pack ranging from t-shirts, books, bags and their certificate.
