Oakmont Carnegie Library summer events on tap
The Oakmont Carnegie Library has released its list of summer events for adults, teens and young children.
Recurring events for adults include the library’s book club, Cookbook Club, yoga, Meditation with the Monks every Tuesday, open hours in the Makerspace, and Third Tuesday at the Movies.
Special events in June include Pop Culture Cross Stitch for teens and adults on June 15 and a Summer Sewing: Beach Tote Edition on June 20 and 22.
The library’s Books and Brews Book Club, hosted at local breweries, will meet June 26 at Acclamation Brewing in Verona.
Children and family events include a Bluey party on June 14; Read S’more Book Club on June 13, June 27, July 11 and July 25; Baby Lap Sit on Thursdays in June and July; and pre-kindergarten story time on Wednesdays through Aug. 7.
Allegheny River Boulevard association holding open house
Community members are invited to a public engagement session on maintaining and restoring Allegheny River Boulevard’s scenic features.
The Allegheny River Boulevard Preservation Association is holding the meeting in conjunction with consultant Landmarks SGA from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 13 at Steel City Rowing Club, 101 Arch St., Verona.
Input from residents, business owners and other stakeholders will help guide the Preservation and Management Plan for the 6-mile road, which stretches from Hulton Road in Oakmont to Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh.
A second meeting will take place later this year, according to Rick Duncan, president of the Allegheny River Boulevard Preservation Association, with a focus on presenting tentative plans to the public.
Household chemical collection scheduled
The Pennsylvania Resource Council will hold a household chemical collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at Boyce Park in Plum.
Individuals can drop off automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, paints and other household chemicals. A $20 fee covers disposal of up to 10 gallons or 50 pounds of material per vehicle. Loads exceeding 10 gallons and 50 pounds will be subject to additional fees.

State store closed for remodeling
The Fine Wine & Good Spirits at 90 Allegheny River Blvd. in Verona is expected to be closed until the fall as crews remodel the building.
There are several liquor stores nearby, including:

• 974 Freeport Road in Pittsburgh
Plum summer movie night
“PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” will be showing June 8 at the Plum Borough amphitheater outside the municipal center, 2000 Mike Thomas Way.
The movie will start at dusk. Those attending are advised to bring a blanket. There will be free popcorn and pre-show activities for children.
Oakmont church celebrates anniversary
St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 378 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is celebrating its 150th anniversary June 9 with a special 10:30 a.m. service.

Verona Farmers Market starts season June 6; more vendors sought
The Verona Farmers Market in Railroad Park, 737 E. Railroad Ave., officially kicks off from 2 to 7 p.m. June 6 and runs every Thursday through Nov. 21.
On June 6, there will be a free meet and greet from 4 to 6 p.m. with Ariel hosted by Enchanted Experiences. She will be available for photos and autographs.

Group offers support for weight loss
All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.
With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.
You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.
