Coles made his cosy-crime fiction debut in 2022 with the ‘charming and funny’ Murder Before Evensong. He now returns with the third in the series: Murder at the Monastery. In this warm, intelligent and mordant whodunnit, Daniel Clement takes respite as a novice in a monastery after suffering from a private humiliation. But as dark secrets unfold, trouble brews, and his recovery trip soon turns into another knotty murder investigation.
In this special livestreamed event, Coles will join the Guardian columnist Zoe Williams for a chat about the book. He will also reflect on his rich and colourful life and career, from being a member of the 1980s pop duo Communards, a Catholic monk in his 30s and a vicar in his 40s, to becoming – according to his late husband David – ‘a borderline national trinket’
