Muscat – Loaded with dramatic narration, music and foleys, a podcast of a novel by an Oman based Indian author is now available on Spotify.
Rajan V Kokkuri’s Prisoner’s Daughter was rendered into a podcast by producer and director Ajay Tambe of creativeaudios.in. The audio drama is of around 21-minute duration and features voice artists from all over the world, including the UK, the US and India.
“In March 2021, my first audio book was released by the name I Remain Forever Yours, which is how the idea of a podcast with an international cast emerged. The director wanted an original story for the podcast,” Kokkuri said.
“I was overwhelmed by his offer and wrote this story based on a true incident that happened long back in a village in Kerala. It was narrated to me by my mother’s retired teacher and I took inspiration from it.”
Set in 1984 in a village in Thrissur, in the southern Indian state of Kerala, the story narrates the tale of a 16-year-old girl Swati who discovers that her father, long believed to be dead, is alive.
“It is always a proud moment for any writer when his story is made into another creative expression like a movie or drama. This may perhaps be the first time ever that an Indian author’s story is being podcast and streamed globally in over 60 countries. I played my part by providing the script to the director and the rest was managed by him,” Kokkuri said.
He claimed the podcast (https://open.spotify.com/episode/4CGfd3jQKbLYrF7dW6ghmC?si=UkdMYXa_SbyTg8AK7CvizA&utm_source=copy-link) became one of Oman’s top ten in the last few weeks.
Kokkuri’s debut Malayalam novel Nan Ennum Ninde Swantham is in the pipeline. He writes regularly for Taare Zameen Par magazine.
