The Spanish Royal Family is in crisis mode following the release of another embarrassing book which takes aim at King Felipe and Queen Letizia’s alleged marital issues.
Controversial journalist Jaime Peñafiel, 91, has launched a fresh attack on the Spanish royal couple in his new book “Letizia’s Silence”, which was published in Spain on Tuesday.
The book’s title is reportedly a reference to the Queen’s stoic silence in the face of affair rumours made by Mr Penafiel in his first book “Letizia & I”.
The first book scandalised Spain in January due to shocking claims that Letizia engaged in a long-term love affair with her own sister’s then-husband Jaime del Burgo.
According to the Daily Mail, the tabloid journalist goes even further in the new book and label’s Spain’s popular Queen “cold, emotionally immature and passive aggressive”.
Letizia, 51, married the future King of Spain in 2004 after meeting Felipe while working as a TV anchor and the couple share two daughters.
Perhaps more hurtfully to Letizia, the journalist also claimed she was “hated” by her husband’s family and that her alleged infidelity “destroyed” Felipe.
Letizia has not responded to claims made in either book and the Spanish royal couple have continued their royal duties despite the media circus surrounding the salacious claims.
In a review, Spanish publication El Nacional Cat slammed Mr Peñafiel for coming across as “determined to end the Queen’s career” and described him as “one of Letizia’s biggest enemies”.
The embarrassing new allegations are only the latest twist in the scandal-prone Spanish monarchy.
Felipe’s father, the former King Juan Carlos, is currently living in “exile” in the Middle East after becoming embroiled by damning corruption allegations that he pocketed millions of euros in kickbacks from Saudi Arabia.
The corruption scandal prompted Juan Carlos to abdicate and thrust Felipe and Letizia onto the throne in 2014.
Letizia has since emerged as one of the world’s most glamorous and photographed royals and was seen mingling with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon during the 2022 NATO Summit in Spain.
The elegant Spanish royal, who visited Australia last year to cheer on her country at the FIFA Women’s World Cup final, is also a close friend of Tasmanian-born Princess Mary of Denmark.
