A well-known author with Rogart connections will talk about her latest book and its star-studded launch at an event at Dornoch Bookshop on Friday, July 12.
New Zealand born Kirsty Gunn’s new collection of short stories entitled ‘Pretty Ugly’ has just hit the book shelves.
It was launched at an evening of performance, discussion and entertainment at the Merton College, University of Oxford, on June 11 where leading actors Brian Cox and Nicola Ansari gave readings from the book.
Mr Cox, whose films include the Bourne trilogy, was last seen on screen as Logan Roy in Succession while Nicola Ansari last starred in ‘The Score’.
Ms Gunn, who has a home in Rogart and is also known for her opposition to wind farms, is the author of ten works of fiction which have been translated into several languages around the world and adapted into films, stage plays and dance pieces.
Her work has been shortlisted for and won a number of international prizes and awards. She was a Merton Visiting Research Fellow in the Creative Arts in 2020 and Pretty Ugly is her third collection of short stories.
Will Burns, editor of Rough Trade Books, which published Pretty Ugly, said that Ms Gunn was a “high class master of the form”.
He said: “These are stories that aren’t afraid to look any of our human ugliness square in the eye, even while decked up in some of the most beautiful prose you’ll read.”
Ms Gunn said that she was “thrilled” to have her new collection of short stories published by Rough Trade Books.
The event at Dornoch book shop on June 12 will run from 2pm-4pm when Ms Gunn will discuss her book and be available to sign copies.
