The Raven God is the third in a series of young adult fantasy novels by OC author Alane Adams
Norse mythology is having a moment and so is OC author Alane Adams.
From Neil Gaimen’s “Norse Mythology” to “Thor: Ragnorak,” the Norse pantheon is hot, and here in Orange County, we have our own Norse-inspired storyteller who is quietly making waves.
In September, young adult author Alane Adams released “The Raven God,” the final book in her three-part fantasy series Legend of Orkney, which features a plethora of Norse gods and legends. The series follows a 12-year-old boy named Sam, who enters a fantasy realm and discovers his complicated lineage (he hails from a long line of witches but is also the son of Odin). In the third book Sam travels across multiple worlds to defend Orkney against his father’s nemesis, the shape-shifting Loki, with help from a colorful cast of friends.
“It’s exhilarating to bring the series to a close, especially because I think the third book is the most fun and has a sweet and satisfying ending.” Adams says. “Also, bittersweet because I have to leave these characters behind for now.”
Since the release of her first Orkney book in 2016, Adams has made more than 34 book tour stops at elementary schools in 11 different states, but her touring isn’t just about moving inventory. The net proceeds from the book sales go to her Rise Up Foundation, a nonprofit based in Orange, which provides free literacy programming to schools across the nation.
In addition to finishing up her Orkney series, November also marks the release “The Santa Thief,” a picture book for readers ages four through eight.
